Step 1

Register your new address

Frist: 14 days after moving in · You may face a fine of up to €500. But: If you booked an appointment, this already counts as meeting the deadline – even if the appointment is later!

You must register your new address at a Berlin citizens' office. This must be done within 14 days after moving in. Berlin has over 60 citizens' offices – you can go to any of them, regardless of your district.

Step 3If you have a car

Re-register your car

Your vehicle must be re-registered at the vehicle registration office to your new address. Note: In Berlin appointments are very scarce – currently about 8 weeks waiting time!

⚠️Fine possible for late re-registration. The grace period is about 4 weeks.

Step 4

Update ID card address

Your new address must be entered in your ID card. With online registration: address sticker arrives by mail!

⚠️If you do this together with registration at the citizens' office, you save yourself an extra appointment.

Update TV/radio fee address

Update your address with the broadcasting fee service. This can be done completely online in 2 minutes.

Step 6

Register electricity

Register your electricity at your new address. If you do nothing, you'll automatically end up in expensive basic supply!

Set up internet

Check which providers are available at your new address and book in time – installation can take 2-4 weeks!
