Parental allowance replaces part of your income. The application should be submitted promptly after birth, as only 3 months are paid retroactively.
Child benefit is applied for at the Family Benefits Office. It is only paid retroactively for 6 months.
Your child is automatically co-insured. Formal registration should be done within 2 months.
You must register parental leave with your employer. There is a legal entitlement until the child's 3rd birthday.
For travel outside Germany, your child needs their own passport or child's travel document.
